Technical Sales with an Engineering Mindset

After six years behind the scenes as a design engineer, the transition to technical sales in late 2024 marked a significant shift in perspective. Joining the team at the Tikkakoski factory as a Sales Engineer, Joni brought with him a deep understanding of the technical details that drive machining solutions.

For many, moving from design to sales is a major leap, but the transition has been supported by a culture of open communication and peer support. “The shift in mindset from design to sales is a continuous process, but it has been a rewarding one,” Joni explains. This technical foundation allows for a more practical approach when discussing complex requirements with customers.

One of the most notable observations during the first months was the environment itself. Often, mechanical workshops are expected to be noisy and cluttered, but the reality at the Tikkakoski facility proved different. The quiet atmosphere, modern machinery, and organized part flow reflect a high standard of precision—a quality that translates directly into the service provided to customers.

In this role, the focus is on more than just transactions; it is about solving supplier challenges through active listening and a positive, solution-oriented attitude. By bridging the gap between engineering and sales, Joni ensures that technical needs are met with accuracy and clarity.

The passion for complex machinery extends beyond the factory walls. A few years ago, Joni and a group of friends built a stock-engine endurance racing car from scratch. While the competitive racing days have paused, the car remains a project for open track days—a reminder that a background in engineering is often driven by a genuine interest in how things work and how they can be improved.

Joni combines technical know-how with a genuine interest in machinery, at work and beyond.
